Get More Done Each Day

SponsoredTweets referral badge
My dad, an executive for an insurance company taught me early on that writing things down crystallises our thinking, reminds us, and helps us to accomplish more in each day.  I think it was Napoleon Hill who used this technique and said, "Use this method.  You might not get ALL the tasks accomplished each day, but you will never discover another better method for getting them done either".

I received an eMail reminder of this easy method for accomplishing more each day, and I have reprinted it in it's entirety from Dan Robey.  Here it is:

Here's a question you may want to ask yourself regularly:

What am I doing with my 24 hours?

In other words, every day, what do you have to show for burning

through another 24 hours of your life?

If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I

would like', then I'm happy to tell you that you can change that
right now, and in a moment, in this email, I'm going to give you a
simple system for doing it.

If you're ready to put more life and more action into your day,

then get a pen and paper and write down this simple system.

It consists of 3 basic steps. Here they are:

1. Write down all the tasks you want to get done today

2. Assign a specific block of time for completing each task

   (like 30 minutes)

3. Select a task, start a timer, and focus on nothing else until

   that task is complete!

That's all there is to it.

Simple, yes! Incredibly effective, YES!

By itself, this system can put your productivity into high-gear -

IF you use it.

As a productivity and efficiency expert for Evan Carmichael, I have some variations and tips on this above, easy method:

Make sure you can accomplish the task.  Don't write down, "Climb Mt. Everest" ... Tasks are achievable daily accomplishments, not life goals.

Write down the tasks you want to accomplish in no particular order. Don't worry about HOW you will get them done, just write them down.   As you go about your day today, and as you think of things, just write them down, don't worry about prioritising them yet.

At the start of each day, review your list for that day.

Assign a task number, 1.,  2., 3.,  etc. to them at the start of the day.

Accomplish the HARDEST task first, the rest of your day is downhill.

I hope these simple effective reminders make you more productive this week.  Remember, only about 5% of working adults actually write things down.  Move into the elite group, accomplish more.  Life is progress, not perfection.  Take what you learn, and pass it on.  Plant and Sow.

Giving

When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous.
Wayne Dyer

Nobody wants our junk.  Giving an old set of clothes or a worn out car as a tax write off is fine for some folks, but I don't seem to benefit spiritually from giving those things.  I have been dwelling on ways to give something I am good at, for which I generally get paid to show professionals, writers, business owners, and corporations.   And it always comes back to my time.  The most valuable commodity we all have is our sincere honest effort, our best, the grand sum of all we have learned - ourselves.

I would like to take this opportunity as the year ends to offer of myself, and my skills at Social Media to ANYONE who reads this.  If you would like to:

    *  Expand your audience
    *  Get more followers
    *  Learn Social Media

Than I am offering an hour of telephone consultation to anyone who wants to leave a post below in the comment section.  If nobody comments,  well, at least I offered.  If 30 comment, well I guess I will have benefited 30 folks.

I manage multiple accounts across all spectrum of Social Media, I write articles, I do networking events, and I have been involved with motivation, management, and training most of my adult life.  I just want to give back, to help others, and show my appreciation during the Holiday Season to all of the followers and all of you who have interacted with me, and have taken the time to stop by my blog.
Here's wishing you all a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

Biz Rate False Advertising

I went to this website looking for a 50 inch TV.  Mostly to compare prices, I have been looking at one for a gift all summer.  I have noticed that alot of these sites, including Sears and others have one price to lure you in; and another, completely different price once you click which model you want.

Is this fair?  Do they take consumers for complete fools?  Don't they do more harm than good running false advertisements?

Here's the page I landed on.......
http://www.bizrate.com/television-tv/oid2722464660/search/retarget/

Here's the page that advertised the TV as $499.00

And here is the actual page they took me to when I clicked on the $499.00 model, note the price is now $599.00  a $100.00 Price Difference.

Price Jumps $100 When You Click the Image

Watch Out for Sneaky Moves by Google Facebook and Twitter

Big Social Media wants your phone number.  After giving it to them, getting it back might mean having to change your number.   Numerous attempts have been made to get mine, and I just refuse to give it to them.   I simply refuse.    Let's use Google as an example ( Facebook uses identical tactics, so does Twitter ).  When logging into something like Google +, I will get a prompt asking for my phone number.

At first, Google did this supposedly for "Security" reasons.   After refusing no fewer than twenty times, Google stopped asking.  Then, two weeks ago, they started asking all over again!  Once again, I refused.    If they didn't want it so badly, if they weren't so conniving and sneaky about it, I might even consider giving it to them.  But the dishonest tactics are particularly suspicious.

My destination was ultimately gMail.  Since I have Google +, Blogger, Voice, Business Accounts that I manage, it's important to understand: All I wanted to do was check my mail!

ReType Your Destination

What to do?  The easiest thing is  A. Log in with your password.  B.  When you see the prompt for your phone number?    DO NOT GIVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.  So  retype  http://gmail.com  which isn't that hard.  Just retype your destination.  The same for Blogger, or any other Google Product.

Do the same thing with Facebook, Twitter or any other site that requests your phone number.

Ultimately, they will sell your information, track you using your GPS within each cell phone, and do it all without your permission. Government agencies request information?  These companies provide it with little or no push back.   Obviously, most of us have nothing to hide.  But that is not even the threshold.

The threshold is greed, and how much is your privacy worth to you?  Supposedly,  the Big 3, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn DO NOT SELL your number or publish it without your permission.  Which means absolutely nothing.  How much will the highest bidder pay?  5 dollars per phone number?  10 dollars per phone number?  With only 200 million phone numbers, Facebook could make 1 Billion dollars in cash selling numbers to some schmucks from Russia for 5 dollars apiece.

So refuse to give out information, you already have an account, don't be fooled into giving them more information, and remember:  retype the destination.

Pass along my free tips, remember to plant and sow.  And use what you know about Social Media to start conversations with others - grow your network, and improve people's overall experience.  God Bless ya!

Vary Your Hashtags

Regardless of your field of interest, vary your hashtags on Twitter.

For those who don't use them often, they are words used in search preceded by the pound sign.  Thus tree becomes #tree;  racing becomes #racing.  Now, Twitter's search ability is so efficient that ANY word can be searched without the hashtag, but I like to search using both ways.  I will search with and without it, just to be thorough.

One of the most common is #Quote.   Any word can be hashtagged in a Tweet, sometimes people use it for emphasis since Twitter has no bold, or fonts.

The Search feature is located in the upper toolbar, is grey in color, and next to the blue bird.  You can create your own hashtag, but don't expect it to take off right away, you have to be consistent, over time, and plan to use it for the long run in order for an original word to take root.

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE:

Varying your hashtag will enlarge the way people find and follow you.  Let's just use the subject of writing for a moment, and examine some words that we might use in our Tweets:

#author
#poettues (writer chats)
#novels
#novelists
#100words
#poem
#vss (very, very short)
#poet
#poetry
#pubtip (publication tips)
#publishing
#scifi
#selfpublishing
#webfic (web fiction)
#weblit (web literature)
#wip (work in progress)
#writer
#writetip (writing advice)
#writing
#writingtips (writing advice)
#scriptchat
#blogchat
#amwriting

We can do this for any subject, idea or interest.   Vary those hashtags, not everybody thinks in the same way as we do.  Some people's processes are different, and we all arrive at thoughts differently.  AND don't forget to use plurals sometimes too!  Thus, #Coupon becomes #Coupons.

It is easy to stay in our comfort zone and think we have an audience, and really, nobody is paying attention to us at all. It's not till we experiment with something different that we determine there might be a better way.    Twitter is beautiful. It allows us to experiment with NEW ideas with every tweet, free,  and nobody is going to chastise us for trying.

Buffett's Proposal

This week, we'll here President Obama ( and of course the media outlets ) tout the so called "Buffett Proposal" to tax the rich.  The idea is that the President will float the idea of raising the income tax rate on people making over 1 million dollars  per year.

Was Warren Buffet's Suggestion to Tax the Rich Genuine?

Long before Warrent Buffett, the Omaha investor proposed in his NY Times Op Ed to raise taxes on the rich, he sheltered his own massive fortune in the Gates Foundation.  In 2006, he gave most of his money ( at the time 44 Billion worth of stock ) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/25/AR2006062500801.html  in a tax exempt charity.   His agreement involves giving away one tenth of his wealth each year, until he's given all of it away to tax exempts.  His scheme would not work at all if the Government were to take a huge piece of the money.   He has also indicated that he will give the rest away to non taxable charities before he dies, or at his death.  This has been integral to Mr. Buffet's notions of acquiring vast wealth.   The U.S. Government will not see any increase in taxes from Mr. Buffett.

Tax Exempt is not Paying Taxes

The very idea of a tax exempt shelter is to avoid paying taxes on money.  Regardless of how good the cause, whether it be inoculating African kids against measles or bringing computers to every class room, the entire purpose of charitable giving is two fold:  1.  To "give" the money to a worthy cause, or at least something the giver deems worthy.  and 2.  Keep the government from taxing the money.

Reversing the Capital Gains Effect

Had Warren Buffett been paying a 38% Tax on his capital gains (or 30% or 20%) throughout his lifetime, he would not have been worth #400 million when he first entered the Forbes "Richest Men in the World" List.  As a matter of fact, he wouldn't have been on the list at all.  He would have been worth closer to $100 million when he first entered the list.

Warren Buffett is 80 years old, and has been investing other people's money, and living off his capital gains for 60 years.  He is NOW deciding to suggest that the system change for the super wealthy, AFTER he has benefited by the system more than any other human being alive.

President's Proposal to Tax People Making More than A Million Dollars Per Year

Obama's so called "Buffett Proposal" to tax people making more than a million per year is named because of the NY Times Op Ed piece "Stop Coddling the Rich"   But if you read the open letter Warren Buffett wrote on August 14th, 2011, he mentioned the SUPER RICH.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/opinion/stop-coddling-the-super-rich.html?_r=1   Mr. Buffett was clearly directing his message toward those who should be giving more to charity, and in lieu of that, be willing to pay a higher percentage in income tax.  If you read it thoroughly,  Mr. Buffett was referring to those who make $227.4 million on average from Capital Gains.   Not salaried income workers whom he felt already pay their fair share.

As a matter of fact, Warren Buffett was really directing the article at the "Richest" people on earth, or the Top 400 ( Forbes List ) and many of the people on the list do not even reside in the United States.

Taxing the Rich is Just Code Speak to Increase the Size of Government

When Warren Buffett says he thinks it's a great idea to tax the Super Rich, he means they should pay a larger portion of their taxes to government.  But when Mr. Obama says to "Tax the Rich" he means to increase the size the government.

The U.S. Government tax receipts for 2010 are already 4.5 Trillion dollars.   Taxing the rich for another 100 Billion or 200 Billion or 300 Billion may just be a way to curry favor with the middle class, but will do little to pay down our national debt.

Warren Buffet Has Tried to Encourage Other's Before

The Oracle of Omaha by anyone's standard is a humble man.  He lives in a 6,000 square foot house he bought in the 50's.  He doesn't throw his money away on lavish parties, and stunts.  He has encouraged others to give by his own example, and it's easy to accept his notions of charity.

His wordage in the Opt In piece tells the story:

I know well many of the mega-rich and, by and large, they are very decent  people. They love America and appreciate the opportunity this country has given them. Many have joined the Giving Pledge, promising to give most of their wealth to philanthropy. Most wouldn’t mind being told to pay more in taxes as well, particularly when so many of their fellow citizens are truly suffering.
The "Stop Coddling the Rich" piece does not affect Warren Buffett.  He is 80 years old, and has sheltered his own wealth, and given away much money to charity.  He intends to give it all away before he dies.  He is not giving his money to the United States Government.  Not at all ... Out of his net wealth of 44 Billion, he has paid 7 million in taxes last year, less than a tenth of one percent of what he is worth.

R.J. Kirk's Views on Warren Buffett's Op Ed Piece:

"Why would anyone care about the views on personal income tax rates of a person who has annual income of only 1/7,000 of his net worth? The opinions of small-business owners, who pay a much higher ratio of tax to net worth, are far more informative and important."
RJ Kirk's NET WORTH: $2.2 BILLION
17.4%: THE PERCENT OF HIS TAXABLE INCOME THAT HE PAID IN TAXES

Trying to convince Congress to tax his clients, and those who benefit from his investing tactics; suggesting that higher taxes is a substitute for charity;  and writing letters in the NY Times seem all very good for Mr. Buffett's image.  It may also ameliorate his own guilt after amassing his fortune by the existing rules, and then giving it away to tax sheltered charities.

Isn't it easy to suggest what other's should do after milking the system for all it's worth for his entire professional career?

The Obama administration may well rue the day it decided to use Warren Buffett's name in it's proposal to tax the rich.  When the average tax payer is still unemployed, jobs are scarce, food is more expensive, and gasoline still near $3.50 a gallon, this entire argument is basically a side show.

Buffett's Proposal may do well to fool some voters, and take their attention away from the real issues, but it is hardly a way to solve the country's fiscal problems.
